More Than a Painting: A Memory in Color

One of the most meaningful pieces of feedback I’ve received about my workshops was about the memories a painting could hold.

A participant who celebrated her birthday with a silk painting workshop told me that whenever she looks at her finished piece, she remembers that warm summer day. She remembers the weather, the pleasure of being with friends, and the emotions she felt as they painted together. Her painting brings that afternoon back to her.

That stayed with me. We come together to paint, but we also create something less tangible: a shared experience that becomes part of the work we take home.

For me, these workshops are about warmth, connection, and the freedom to explore. I want participants to feel comfortable trying something unfamiliar, choosing colors they love, and following their own ideas without worrying about getting everything “right.” There is room to experiment, to be surprised, and to enjoy the process.

The paintings shown here were created on October 3 at Marion Art Center during “The Color of Taste – RED: Paint a Pomegranate on Silk.” We began with the same subject, yet each painting developed its own character through the choices of the person creating it.

I warmly invite you to join an upcoming workshop. Give yourself a few hours to explore, express yourself, and enjoy new impressions. You may leave with a painting that holds a happy memory of its own.
